Ghani to Pakistan: Help end the conflict in Afghanistan

Ghani to Pakistan: Help end the conflict in Afghanistan

Mar 19, 2018 - 12:26

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani wants the warring parties should think of ending the conflict instead of winning it, National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua’s office said on Sunday.

At their meeting in Kabul, Ghani said he had pinned great hopes on Pakistan. “We have made a sincere and serious offer of peace [to the Taliban] and together we have to make the best of it by moving beyond the past.

In a statement from the NSA office, Ghani was quoted as saying: “Let’s not remain prisoners of the past and let’s secure our future with the aim not to win the war, but to end it, for which Pakistan should help Afghanistan.”

The Afghan leader also expressed strong support for connectivity with Central Asian Republics to reap the benefits of the ideal geostrategic location of Afghanistan and Pakistan. “Without each other, we are not complete.”

Janjua thanked Ghani for extending an invitation to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to visit Afghanistan and commended the peace offer the president recently held out to Taliban.

The adviser expressed sympathy with the people of Afghanistan who had seen nothing but war over the past 40 years. Janjua reiterated the government’s policy of supporting peace efforts in Afghanistan.
