2 people killed, 30 shops gutted in Jalalabad blaze

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least two people were killed, as many wounded and 30 shops burnt in a blaze caused by an explosion in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday morning, an official said.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the fire erupted at 6:30am when a magnetic bomb attached to a fuel tanker went off on the Ring Road in Jalalabad.

He said two people were killed and two others wounded as a result of the fire in Behsud district. The flames spread to nearby shops and gutted about 30 shops, causing millions of afghanis in losses.

Provincial fire brigade head Col. Fazal Hadi said firefighters were dispatched immediately to the site. They extinguished the blaze at 7am, he added.
