Kabul asked to create pull factors for refugees’ return

Kabul asked to create pull factors for refugees’ return

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has once again underlined the need for early, dignified sustainable and complete repatriation of Afghan refugees to their homeland.

The global fraternity and the Afghan government should invest in the creation of "pull factors" for incentivising the return of refugees, the Foreign Office spokesman said.

Dr. Mohammad Faisal told a weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday the presence refugees in Pakistan enabled Afghan terrorists to melt and morph among them.

Last year’s peace deal between the Afghan government and the Hezb-i-Islami can serve as a template for a similar agreement with the Taliban, the spokesman suggested.

Over the past 17 years, Faisal argued, a military approach to the conflict had failed to help achieve peace and security. The only viable solution was an Afghan-led peace process, he said.

"The peace deal signed between the Afghanistan government and the Hezb-i-Islami can serve as a model for future talks with other insurgent groups including the Taliban."
