Jan 25, 2018 - 19:42

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Thirty-nine schools have still remained closed in southeastern Paktika province depriving thousands of children from education, the residents said on Thursday.

Yahya Katawazai, the resident of Janikhel district told Pajhwok Afghan News that government officials had pledged to reopen all closed schools but they did not honour their promise.

Eid Mohammad, the resident of Khoshamand district, there was no school in the district. “No school or tuition centre had been established in the district in the past 16-year,” he said.

Acting Education Director Mohammad Karim Atalwal said of the 389 schools 39 had been closed due to which thousands of students had been deprived of education.

“We are trying our best to reopen the close schools, but the Taliban created hurdles and the tribal elders did not fully cooperated,” he said.

Governor spokesman Mohammadurrahman Ayaz said without Khoshamand district schools were open in most of Paktika districts.
