FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Economy department official of northeastern Badakhshan province on Thursday said development projects worth  $340 million would be implemented in different districts of the province this year.

Abdul Haseeb Daqiq, provincial economy department director, told Pajhwok Afghan News 83 percent work of 44 kilometers road between Faizabad and Baharak district completed and would finish until late this year.

He said Shurabak Hydropower Dam, construction of 150 kilometers road between Baharak and Ashkasham districts and Faizabad clean water supply were other projects were underway and would complete until the end of this solar year.

“Supervising development projects of the province and addressing problems of organizations and people are our responsibilities,” he said.

Daqiq said that 107 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were active in Badakhshan province and 70 among them were working in education, health and other areas.

Provincial council head, Abdullah Naji Nazari, said the projects implemented in Badakhshan created job opportunities for many local people besides developing the province.

But he said, “Problems still exist in the projects implememation, for example the Ashkasham-Baharak road project is passing from Warduj district which is under the Taliban control, the Taliban may use the resources of the project against the government,”

He said that the government may not be able to supervise the project in Taliban areas and such projects may contain quality problems. Only 50 percent of people are satisfied from the quality of health projects implemented in remote areas, he said.

According to the economy department of Badakhshan, development and welfare projects worth of $1.3 billion have been implemented in the province during the past 10 years.
