30 ALP men killed in Badakhshan ambush

Jul 21, 2017 - 21:32

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Taliban militants ambushed and killed 30 Afghan local police (ALP) members in northeastern Badakhshan province on Friday, a public representative said.

The rebels attacked security forces in Tagab district at about 9am this morning, said Kamil Baig, a member of the provincial council.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban staged the attack from Demgan district, forcing the security forces to retreat.

But the retreating ALP men were ambushed by the rebels, killing 30 of them, he said.

Badakhshan police spokesman Ahmad Zahid confirmed the incident and said both the sides had suffered casualties, but he had no exact figures.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
